Bastille Day 2018 Festivities [fr]
On the occasion of Bastille Day, French Ambassador Jean-Michel Despax and his wife Mrs. Line Despax welcomed Jamaican authorities, members of the diplomatic corps, figures from the economic and cultural spheres, as well as the French community in the Embassy’s gardens.
In his speech, the Ambassador underlined French companies’ undertakings in Jamaica and the tightening of commercial relations between our two countries. His Excellency also mentioned the European Union’s action in Jamaica and the regional integration of French Overseas Caribbean Territories. He also made a point of acknowledging the 10th anniversary of the triangular academic exchange program between Sciences Po Bordeaux, the University of Martinique and the University of the West Indies, as well as the appointment of a new director at the Alliance Française.
Lastly, the Ambassador concluded his speech with personal memories and anecdotes of his years in Jamaica, from his love of the island’s landscapes and good to the hospitality, but most of all the warmth of the Jamaican people.
This year, the French and Jamaican national anthems were sung by Mrs. Ana Strachan and Mr. Franklin Halliburton. Wayne Armond & Friend provided musical entertainment for the night.
