Applying from Jamaica or the Bahamas

Please click on here to obtain your application form which you will complete and submit to us online by December 15, 2019 at midnight.

The application form has 5 sections (A - E).

  1. Complete all sections of the file.
  2. Submit your fully completed file to the teacher who will complete the fiche appréciation and sign it*. All support documentation should also be submitted online along with your application form.
  3. Then sign the different parts of your file to make it valid.

* Once your teacher has signed the fiche appréciation, you will no longer be able to modify the content of your document.

Your file must be sent to the person in charge of recruitment for your country.

Any incomplete files will automatically be rejected and the candidate will be deemed ineligible for recruitment.

NB: How to upload documents

1) Use the latest version of Adobe Reader DC;
2) Do not complete the application file directly on a web browser like Explorer, Edge, Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc…
3) Download the file to your computer and save it on your computer FIRST.
4) With the latest updated version of ADOBE one can answer all questions;
5) After finishing, save a copy before sending it to the teacher for the fiche d’ appréciation.
6) Some teachers might want to submit the file directly to the coordinator after completing the fiche d’ appreciation, rather than returning it to the student.

PLEASE SUBMIT the ONE SINGLE ELECTRONIC FILE you have downloaded with the relevant attachments uploaded to it, and NOT several documents.

Submission

Completed application forms should be submitted to: Mme Rona BARNETT-PASSARD at Tapifjb@gmail.com, by December 15, 2019, at the latest.
 

Support documents you will need

  1. A cover letter
  2. A photocopy of your passport, valid up to December 2021 (photo page, with passport number and signature of candidate).
  3. Proof of registration for the academic year 2019-2020 from the relevant tertiary or private institution (eg. The Alliance Française)
  4. A certified copy of the most recent transcript or diploma obtained
  5. A copy of your degree if undergraduate studies have been completed
  6. Proof that candidates who are married or have children will be free to travel and reside in France for the relevant period.
  7. A recommendation letter from a teacher, attesting to your proficiency in French
     

Interviews

Short-listed applicants will be advised of the dates and times for their interviews, which will take place before a panel of judges, at the French Embassy, during the month of January 2020, and will be conducted in both French and English.
 

Eligibility criteria

The foreign language assistant programme is open to all candidates who:

  • come from one of the 60 partner countries (bilateral agreements or international obligations) ;
  • are native speakers of the language to be taught in France ;
  • have completed their secondary education and are enrolled in higher education in the country from which they are applying;
  • are aged between 20 and 35 years old (For Jamaica and the Bahamas) at the point of their arrival in France. The age range agreed between the partner countries is in line with the programme’s general objectives and the assistant’s specific profile.
  • are enrolled in and attending a university at the time of application. Students from the Alliance Française, and similar institutions, will also be considered;
  • have successfully completed studies equivalent to the 2nd year (L2) of the French Licence (bachelor’s degree) at the point of their arrival in France (depending on country);
  • possess a good knowledge of the French language (B1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.)

 
We would ask candidates to check the specific rules applicable to their country of origin as variations exist.

Candidates from outside the European Union must be in possession of a passport which is valid until December 2021.
 

Departure and Visas

Successful applicants will need to take up their assignments in France starting October 1, 2020.

You will need to apply for a long-stay French visa.

Jamaican applicants will have to apply on the website of VFS Global, at the offices of DHL at 19 Haining Road in Kingston.

Finances

Candidates will be paid monthly (about 770 to 785€ net) for teaching English in France but will be expected to support themselves financially during the first month or two of their stay in France. To this end, they should be prepared to travel with approximately 1 500 €, to tide them over until all the necessary paperwork has been submitted and the first monthly salary can be processed.
