"Jamaica, Jamaica!” from mento to Trenchtown, to deejays
The exhibition opened in the Philharmonie de Paris on April 3rd,
It attracted more than 1300 visitors on the first night alone. Running until August, 13 it displays musical creations as well as objects and paintings by Jamaican artists. This is the first exhibition of this kind and most of the works comes from the collections of the Institute of Jamaica, the Museum of Music in Kingston, the National Gallery of Jamaica, the Pop Culture Museum in Seattle but also from devoted private collectors. In addition to the exhibition the Philharmonie offers musical events and movie projections. Danny Coxton, a Jamaican mural artist in residence in Paris created a series of murals especially for “Jamaica, Jamaica!”.
