Reggae Girlz on the road to France !

On Tuesday 14th May, under the patronage of Ambassador WIBAUX, Supreme Ventures Limited organized a luncheon in honour of the Reggae Girlz, to wish them “Bon voyage”, and a safe and successful tournament.

France is elated to be the host country for this year’s Women’s World Cup, which will take place from June 7th - July, 7th, and for which over a million and a half visitors are expected. The matches will take place in several French cities: Grenoble, Le Havre, Lyon, Montpellier, Nice, Paris, Reims, Rennes and Valenciennes.

Among the guests in attendance was The Honourable Alando Terrelonge, Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, who gave a heartfelt speech, pointing out the joy and pride felt by him and the entire nation for this history making team. The minister recalled that for Jamaica, as for France, the Women’s World Cup is also the symbol of a stronger and continually growing commitment to women in sports and the opportunity to promote equality within soccer.

Ambassador WIBAUX also took to the podium, where he recalled the steady rise of the number of women practicing football worldwide and expressed his joy at being the French Ambassador to Jamaica during such a momentous time in the history of this country. Today, there are two and a half times more women playing the game than there were in 2011, while the number of women’s sections at clubs has more than doubled.

Last October, for the first time in their history, the national Jamaican Football Team, The Reggae Girlz qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019, placing them as the first Caribbean nation to participate in the all-female Cup.
